Relief, climate, agriculture, fishing and rivers:
Vietnam is a country that looks like the S letter and has a mountainous relief in the north-western and central-southern parts. The highest point is Fan Si Pan peak of 3.143 m height. The rest of the territory has lower elevation regions, plain areas that developed very quickly agriculturally. The tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters facilitated the agriculture and the cultures of coffee (among the main producers in the world), tea trees, ules, rice, banana and sugar cane.
Fishing is an important activity in the daily life of the Vietnamese. This country is crossed by some important Asian rivers like the Black River or Song Da, the Red River or Song Hong in north and the Mekong River in south. The last two mentioned are flowing into the Tonkin Gulf respective into Southern Chinese Sea through two big and splendid deltas. Unfortunately the country is often affected by monsoons, typhoons and tropical storms that annually destroy many parts from the cultures.
Population, short history, economy and tourism from Vietnam:
The population is composed by Vietnamese over 90% who live in the rural area, only a quarter living in cities. During the last centuries, Vietnam was conquered by many nations, but finally obtained the independence at 02 September 1945 from France. A great civil war followed between the north and south parts of the country and U.S.A. was implied. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Although the territory is mostly covered by forests, many of these were destroyed during the civil war. Today, it’s trying to recover and develop quickly the economy based upon tourism, agriculture and resources. Tourism plays a more and more important role and the country is visited by more than 4 million people annually. The country’s capital is Hanoi, but the largest city is in south, Ho Chi Minh known as the old capital Saigon. Visit Vietnam!
