Relief of Turkey:
Turkey is a big size country, with a predominantly mountainous relief composed by the Pontic Mountains in north and Taurus Mountains in south composed by a calcareous relief with diverse forms like caves, dolines and others and in the central part in Cappadocia region, there is a large plateau. On the seacoasts, the area is low in elevation with beautiful beaches and fertile lands good for agriculture. The highest peak of the country is Ararat where it’s said that Noah’s Ark stopped after the flood and it is 5.137 m height.
Lakes, rivers and climate of Turkey:
The country has some large lakes like Van, Keban or Tuz, but also important rivers like Tigris, Euphrates, Aras, Kelkit, Kizil Irmak and Sakarya. Unfortunately it has frequently problems with the earthquakes, some of them very powerful that brought important damages and deaths in time. One of the smallest seas in the world, Marmara Sea situated in the north-western Turkey, separate the country in the European part and the Asian part through the Bosphorus Strait. The climate is Mediterranean with warm and even hot summers and mild winters, but in the central part, climate is drier.
Agriculture, population, resources, industries and cities:
Many of Turkey’s people are involved in agriculture and cultivate cereals, cotton, tobacco, orchards, citrus and others. Besides agriculture, another part of the population is involved in the exploitation of mineral resources like oil, coal, iron, steel and others. The country is the 6th in Europe as engineering, but other important industries are the ones of textile, alimentary, banking, electronics and others. Although the capital of Turkey is Ankara, the historical, financial and cultural capital is Istanbul.
