Relief, climate, rivers and lakes:
Tunisia is a country with a relief composed by plains and hills good for agriculture, but heading south the territory becomes dry with a small part of the Sahara Desert on this territory. The only mountainous region is represented by the east side of Atlas Mountains in west with the maximum peak Jebel Chambi of 1.544 m height. The country doesn’t have too many rivers, but it has in the central part, one of the largest African lakes, Chott Jerid Lake. The climate is dry in south, but temperate with Mediterranean influences in north. The medium temperature varies between 10 and 14º C in winter and between 26 and 30º C in summer. The rainfall sometimes passes over 1.000 mm in north, but in south barely gets to 200 mm per year.
Agriculture, resources and tourism in Tunisia:
As about agriculture, the inhabitants grow sheep, goats, cattle and camels and cultivate cereals, citrus, olive trees and different vegetables. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Although the country has important resources of oil, natural gas, phosphates and plumb, most earnings come from tourism because the country is annually visited by more than 6 million tourists attracted by the warm climate, the quiet and beautiful sea resorts, the historical vestiges from the Phoenicians period (around 3.000 years ago) and by the cities full of history and culture. The country obtained the independence from France at 20 March 1956. Visit Tunisia!
