When to go:
The best period to visit Târgu Jiu City is between April and September-October. Because of the high altitude and the mountains presence in the area, the temperature is a bit lower, however in this period is recorded an average between 15 and 25° C. Between May and September is the best period for walks, visits and fun in Gorjean Capital.

Targu Jiu City is situated in the north-west part of Oltenia‘s historical region, in a low depression relief area (Targu Jiu Depession) between the Getic Plateau and Southern Carpathians represented here by Godeanu and Valcan Mountains. It’s situated at the half distance between the Equator and the North Pole and the average of altitude is 250-300 m height. The climate in Targu Jiu City is temperate-continental of hill and the influences coming from the Mediterranean Sea are present here. Generally is a protected area against any extreme temperatures and the temperature differences are lower than in other areas of the country. Summers are hot and often rich in rainfall and winters are long and cold. The annual average of the temperature is 9-10° C. Targu Jiu City is crossed by Jiu River, one of the most important rivers from the country and Vadeni Lake is nearby.

Gorj County‘s capital has a special charm. We say this, especially because Targu Jiu City was decorated with some of the best masterpieces of the well known Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi. This depression city of a rare beauty, offers beautiful views over the Carpathian Mountains and even if it has passed through difficult periods during its history, it was helped in the end by the masterpieces of the great sculptor born in Hobita who later spent a big part of his life in France. Among the most famous sculptures we remember the Endless Column, the Silence Table and the Kiss Gate.
