Relief and climate from Sri Lanka:
This country obtained the independence from Great Britain at 04 February 1948 and is an island with a relief dominated by plain, but the central part is covered by medium elevation mountains. The highest peak is Pidurutalagala with its 2.524 m height. The climate is tropical with the presence of monsoons and cyclones in the rainy season that unfortunately provoke many material damages and human deaths, but it is also temperate in the mountainous area. The medium rainfall can pass over 3.000 to 4.000 mm annually.
Resources, agriculture and population:
Besides the resources of iron, lead and gems, this country has an economy based upon agriculture in which more than a third of the population is working and upon tourism. The locals cultivate rice, tea trees (world’s leader in exportation), coffee trees, cacao, manioc, batata and also many different kinds of vegetables and fruits for the own living. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The most of the population is composed from Sinhalese and the largest minority is the Tamils. Unfortunately between the two groups existed many conflicts and a Civil War. The country is separated from India through the Palk strait. Visit Sri Lanka!
