By car:
North-East entry: follow the European road E574 (DN73/65) from Bacău – Onești – Târgu Secuiesc – Brașov – Câmpulung – Pitești.
South-West entry: follow the European road E574 (DN65) from Craiova.
North entry: follow the National road DN64 from Râmnicu Vâlcea – Drăgășani till Găneasa and after to east on DN65.
South entry: follow the National road DN54/64 from Turnu Măgurele – Corabia – Caracal till Găneasa and after go east on DN65.
By train:
Slatina City is a secondary railway junction of Romania. Tourists can get here by train as easy as by car and the main railway routes from here are:
Pitești – Slatina – Piatra Olt
Bucharest – Pitești – Slatina – Craiova
Craiova – Slatina – Pitești
Slatina – Caracal
Pitești – Slatina and others.
By plane:
Slatina City doesn’t have an international airport, so tourists who want to come here by plain will have to arrive on Craiova International Airport (50 km) with flights towards and from Bucharest, London, Rome, Milano, Bologna, Barcelona and Dortmund or “Henri Coandă” – Otopeni International Airport from Bucharest (200 km) with more flights.

When to go:
The best period to visit Slatina City is between March, when the flowers and trees come into blossom and the temperature begins to increase and September-October, when trees have gorgeous colors. Slatina City is situated in the east part of the historical region Oltenia, more exactly situated at the contact between Oltenia and Muntenia regions. It’s situated in a relatively low area at the contact between the Getic Plateau in north and the Romanian Plain (Oltenia Plain) in south. However the relief where the city is built is various. In north is Cotmeana Platform, in east are some hills (Oltetului Hills), in south is Boianului Plain and in west Oltului Valley. The average of the altitude for the city is 135 m height.
The climate in Slatina City is temperate-continental of transition, where summers are hot with high temperatures and winters are cold but shorter. The annual average of the temperature is 10-11° C and the rainfall is around 500 mm per year. Slatina City is crossed by Olt River, one of the most important rivers from the country, where more reservoirs were formed.
The importance of industry in Slatina City:
Slatina, Olt County’s capital, is a quite small city from Romania, but is the biggest and most powerful economical, commercial, cultural and industrial centre from the county. The industry brings today the biggest economical incomes of the city, based very much upon its factories. The most important is the aluminum factory and except Russia is the main aluminum factory from Central and Eastern Europe. Beside this, there are tires and auto parts factories and many others, which together offer an industrial aspect to the city. With the incomes help, in the last part of the 20th century, Slatina developed very much and became a modern industrial city. Of course that in the last years commerce was developed very much as well, so many more commercial centers were built.

However, touristically, Slatina is not a well known city, but its historical, religious or cultural tourist objectives and attractions can impress everyone. In Slatina, tourism is based a lot on culture, but mostly on religion because Romania is known as a religious country.
