Relief, rivers, population, agriculture and resources:
Sierra Leone obtained the independence from Great Britain at 27 April 1961 and is a country with a hilly relief and mountains in east where is the Bintimani peak at 1.948 m height the highest peak of the country. The country is split in two parts by the Sewa River and towards the ocean is a fertile coastal plain. The capital Freetown that has a quarter of the entire population is situated on one of the African largest natural ports. The savannas and the tropical forests that cover a large part of Sierra Leone, are home to a rich fauna and flora. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Important are the hardwoods like the teck and the mahogany which are hard and expensive, but also numerous species of animals among some of them are in danger of disappearing. The agriculture plays an important role in the locals life (the rice is the most cultivated and most important aliment) and the most important resources are the ones of diamonds, titan and bauxite. Unfortunately it’s a low developed country, frequently affected by political intern conflicts. Visit Sierra Leone
