North-West entry: follow the European road E81 (DN1) from Ukraine – Satu Mare – Zalău – Cluj Napoca – Turda – Alba Iulia – Sebeș.
West entry: follow the European road E68 (DN7) from Hungary – Arad – Deva – Sebeș or A1 highway from Deva.
South-East entry: follow the European road E81 (DN7) from Constanța – Bucharest – Pitești – Râmnicu Vâlcea.
East entry: follow the European road E68 (DN1) from Brașov – Făgăraș.
North entry: follow the National road DN14 from Sighișoara – Mediaș.
Because it’s situated in centre of the country, the access is very easy from any point of Romania.

Sibiu City has an international airport, called Sibiu International Airport with daily or weekly flights towards or from Bucharest, Munchen, Stuttgart, Tunis, Antalya or Vienna. Tourists can also choose to arrive on “Avram Iancu” International Airport from Cluj Napoca (160 km) or on Timișoara International Airport (270 km).

20th December 1191 called Cibinium. It became a city in 1366.
When to go:
The best period to visit Sibiu City is between April and September-October. Beside these months the weather can be freakish and cold, with many days rich in rainfall. But starting with spring, the weather begins to warm-up and tourists start to arrive. The beautiful weather lasts at least 7 months a year, so the positive temperatures will attract tourists in the area. The city can be visited also during winter and can be a good starting point towards the mountain resorts from Southern Carpathians during winter.

Sibiu City is situated in the south part of Transylvania’s historical region, in a low depression relief area represented by Sibiu or Cibinului Depression. This gorgeous area is very close to the Southern Carpathians (Fagaras, Cindrel and Lotrului Mountains are the nearest) in the south part and to the Transylvanian Plateau (Tarnavelor Plateau) in the north part. The average altitude is 415 m height. The climate from Sibiu City is temperate-continental, constant, with influences from the Southern Carpathians. Summers are hot, but shorter than in other areas of the country due to the higher elevation and winters are cold and a bit longer. The annual average of the temperature is 8-9° C and the annual rainfall of 650-700 mm. Sibiu City is crossed by Cibin River where and the Orlat, Racovita and Avrig Lakes are relatively close.

Properly, Sibiu City was chosen as European Cultural Capital in 2007. This city with a medieval aspect is one of the most beautiful cities from the country. Hardly you can find in Romania another city with a rich history and culture like this one. Known in the past as Hermannstadt, today Sibiu kept many of the historical monuments, statues and buildings since 500-600 years ago. From here you can visit the imposing museums like Brukenthal Museum, a symbol of the city, Sibiu’s parks and plazas or you can walk on one of the medieval streets full of history. Sibiu City is known as Transylvania’s Medieval Capital and this is because it was Transylvania’s Capital for almost 100 years between 1692 and 1791. It’s also the city with the largest German population from Romania, till 1930 Germans representing the majority in Sibiu. Anyway, Romanian population began to increase only after the 2nd World War.
