Relief, rivers, climate, fishing, resources and population of Saint Lucia:
Saint Lucia is an old British colony from 1814, obtaining its independence in 22 February 1979. It has a mountainous and volcanic relief and is crossed by many rivers, having its flanks covered by tropical forests. Over 18 volcanic peaks exist in the southern part of the island and the highest one is the volcanic peak Soufriere with its 1.200 m height. The climate is tropical wet and the fauna and flora are rich in species. The country is on the 2nd place in the Caribbean region as about the production of banana. Besides tourism, the locals are involved in fishing as another main activity because the surrounding waters are rich in marine species especially thon, mackerel and many other types of marine fish.
