Relief and short history of Poland:
It is a beautiful country, with a relief formed by plains and few mountain areas especially in the southern part where is the Carpathian chain with Tatra Mountains. The most beautiful landscapes of the country are also here as it is one of Poland’s National Parks. The highest peak is Rysy situated at the border with Slovakia in the south with its 2.499 m height. It is a country with a rich history since 1025 when it became a kingdom. Since 1529 together with Lithuania it composed “The republic of the two nations”, dissolved in 1795. After it was conquered by the Nazis, Poland got back its tranquility in 1989. It obtained the independence at 11 November 1918.
Climate, rivers and lakes:
The climate is temperate with great variances between the seasons. The summers are hot, the winters are cold and the rainfall is rich even if the annual media is under 1.000 mm. It is a country where the cold winds from Siberia and Scandinavia meet the warm winds from the south. The snow covers a big part of the country’s territory in winter time. The most important Polish rivers are Warta, Bug, Odra at the border with Germany and Vistula which is the longest river with more than 900 km in length. Besides the Baltic Sea to the north, Poland has more than 4.000 of rivers and lakes.

The largest Polish cities are the capital Warsaw, the historic capital Cracow, but also cities like Lodz, Wroclaw, Poznan or Gdansk. The country has important resources of coal (on the 5th place in the world), copper, brimstone, plumb, zinc and silver.
