Economy and industries of Ploiesti City:
The main city from Prahova County is also the biggest and most important economic, commercial, industrial, cultural and tourist center of the county. Due to the fact that for a long time the oil reserves from the region were very high, the city founded the first oil refinery from the world and it’s known in Europe as the “Capital of the Black Gold“. Beside the oil processing industry, important for Ploiesti City’s economy are the machinery, chemical, textile and wood industry. Beside these, the agriculture and commerce are other important domains, but in the last years, especially after Communism fall, tourism developed more and more, not only in Ploiești but also in the whole county. Unfortunately the tourism suffers a lot because in the last centuries the city was affected by various natural disasters or by negative historical events which seriously affected the local architecture.
