Pitesti City is situated at the contact of two major relief units of Romania: The Getic Plateau represented by Cotmeana Piedmont and the Romanian Plain represented by Pitestilor High Plain. The elevation slightly varies depending of the city’s areas, but the city itself is situated on an average of altitude of 300-400 m height. The climate is temperate-continental, specific to depression area, with a rainfall of over 700 mm per year and different temperatures during the year, due to the alternation of the 4 seasons. During summer the annual average of temperature is 20-21° C, and in winter is -3 to -1° C. The main river on which Pitesti is situated, is Argeș and Doamnei River is a secondary one. It’s good to mention that in the area are two reservoirs: Budeasa and Golești and also two natural lakes: Prundu and Vâlcele, all on Argeș River.

The city is also known as “Orașul Lalelelor” (Tulip City) due to the fact that in Pitești is annually held a festival called “Simfonia Lalelelor” (Tulips Symphony). It’s considered one of the biggest cities from Romania and the largest from Muntenia’s west part. It’s also an important cultural, social and economic center and in the last decades after the communism fall, the city started to develop more and more touristically.
