Relief and waters of Pakistan:
Pakistan has a complex relief, composed by very high mountains in north-east with Hindu Kush Mountains and Karakorum Mountains from Kashmir region (the highest peak is K2 with its 8.611 m height), but also low elevation mountains in the central and western parts like Toba Kakar Mountains. The entire eastern part is a fertile plain crossed by the Indus River and its tributaries, the longest and most important in this country which flows into the Arabian Sea in south. The country’s only desert region is in south-east represented by Thar Desert.
Climate, economy, population and cities:
The climate is tropical, dry in many places, with temperatures and rainfall according to the elevation. With an economy in a continuous development, Pakistan obtains its earnings from the resources of coal, oil, natural gas, chrome and salt, but especially from agriculture and the most important industries are textile (famous Pakistani carpets), chemical and the ships building. The most part of the inhabitants cultivate cereals, cotton (one of the world’s greatest producers), tea, sugar cane, sesame and different seeds, but also grow animals like camels, sheep, cattle and donkeys for transport and food. The majority of the people live modestly in the rural area, but there are also large cities like Karachi (the largest port), Lahore or Faisalabad and the capital Islamabad is only the 9th city as population from the whole country.
