Relief, climate, agriculture, population, industry and economy of Mauritania:
Mauritania has a relief almost entirely covered by the Sahara Desert and the only fertile territories are on the Atlantic Ocean coast, in the desert oases and on the Senegal River valley situated on the border with the same name country. The climate is very dry with very high temperatures that can frequently pass 40º C. The Arab, Moorish and other African nationalities most of them are living in the rural area working in agriculture for their own living. They cultivate in the few fertile areas millet, sorghum, rice, corn, leguminous plants and dates and grow sheep, goats, cattle, camels and other animals for food and transport. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Fishing together with the extraction industry (iron – more than two thirds of the exports, plaster – among the world’s largest reserves, copper and gold) represent the main industries of the Mauritanian economy. The country obtained the independence from France at 28 November 1960. The capital and the largest city and port is Nouakchott. Visit Mauritania!
