The largest coral atolls are Majuro, Kwajalein, Bikini, Sibylla and Enewetak. Before the U.S. colonization, this archipelago was under Spanish and German domination and finally obtained its independence from the United States of America at 21 October 1986. The climate is tropical hot and humid with a high rainfall in the rainy season that lasts between May and November and a lower rainfall in the dry season that lasts between December and April.
