This is also a country with a low relief, with no more than a few hundreds of m height. Besides the capital Riga, port to the same name gulf, other important cities and ports to the Baltic Sea are Liepaja and Ventspils. Among thousands of Latvian rivers, the longest one is Western Dvina or Daugava which flows into the Gulf of Riga. Almost half of the country’s surface is covered by forests of pine and oak which assure a good resource of timber. This country has few resources of coal, burr and dolomite. The majority of the population is living in cities, Latvian in origins, but also a third of the total population is represented by Russian people.
