Relief and agriculture from Laos:
Laos is the lowest populated country from South-Eastern Asia and has a relief of more than 75% composed by mountains with the maximum elevation in the Phou Bia peak of 2.819 m height. The rest of the territory is arable, a large part of the population living in the rural area and working in agriculture cultivating rice, manioc, sugar cane, potatoes and poppy and growing bulls and pigs for their own living. The standard of living is very low and the medium life expectancy is a little more than 52 years.
Climate, fauna and flora, population and economy:
The climate is tropical with the monsoons presence in the wet season, but these heavy rains are good for the cultures and for the forests that cover more than a half of the country’s territory. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Among the most important hardwoods are the teck, the mahogany and the rose wood. Covered by jungle, the fauna and flora are remarkable ranging from tigers, panthers and leopards to wild bulls and hundreds of bird species. The majority of the population is concentrated along the Mekong River which represents a real treasure for Laotians. It is the only country from the South-Eastern Asia with no coast to a sea and due to its uneven relief, the economy has developed very hard and low in the last time. The tourism is almost absent and the infrastructure is low developed. This country obtained the independence from France at 19 July 1949. Visit Laos!
