Islands, relief, climate, fauna and flora, agriculture and economy from Kiribati:
This archipelago has a land surface very small comparative with the water surface of these islands (approximately 5 million km²). The 32 islands are disposed in three groups of islands: Gilbert Islands in west where is the capital South Tarawa situated on Tarawa Island, Phoenix Islands in center and Line Islands in east. They are coral or volcanic islands with the relief low in elevation where the medium height doesn’t exceed several m. The climate is tropical oceanic with high constant temperatures but surprisingly sometimes the rainfall represent a problem. More than a half of these islands are covered with palm trees and tropical forests which have a diverse fauna and flora. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Most of the people are living in Gilbert Islands and work in agriculture cultivating bread trees, coco trees, taro, tropical fruits, sweet potatoes and vegetables. Fishing, the extraction of the phosphates resources and the tourism are other sectors of the economy that bring earnings. The insular country obtained the independence from Great Britain at 12 July 1979. Visit Kiribati!
