Name, relief, Jordan River, climate, population and agriculture:
Jordan obtained its independence at 25 May 1946 and its name comes from the main river that has the same name which flows on the border with Israel in west. Actually the only fertile area of the country is here in the Jordan River Valley and the rest of the territory is covered with a desert relief like the Syrian Desert which occupies the central and eastern parts of the country making the climate to be dry and hot. The majority of cities among the capital Amman which has almost a third of the total population, the main port at the Red Sea, Aqaba and the city of Karak are all in the west part of this Arabian state.
