Relief, rivers and lakes of Ivory Coast:
Ivory Coast has a relief composed by a big plateau that covers the most part of the country and it’s getting higher in west forming low elevation mountains. The highest point is Nimba on the border with Guinea at 1.752 m height. The Atlantic coast is very fragmented and the plain that extend to the interior of the country is very fertile and used in agriculture. Ivory Coast is crossed by many rivers and among the most important are Sassandra, Bandama and Komoe and also has some big lakes like Buyo and Kossou.
Fauna and flora, climate, tourism and economy:
The central and northern parts are covered by savanna and tropical forests. These compile a large variety of fauna and flora and together with the hot climate and the beautiful big cities bring a large part of the earnings from the very developed tourism. Unfortunately a part of these forests were cut down threatening some species of plants and animals. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The main activity of the inhabitants is the agriculture locals cultivating plants like cocoa trees (over 40% of the world’s production), coffee trees (one of the world’s leaders), cotton, oil palms, ules and other cereals.
In the present, the economy is recovering due to some conflicts from the last century that brought the economy’s decline. The capital of the country is Yamoussoukro a city close to the Bandama River, but the largest city and the most important port and center of fishing is Abidjan also considered the diplomatic and administrative capital. Ivory Coast obtained the independence from France at 07 August 1960. Visit Ivory Coast!
