Relief, population, economy, agriculture and negative impacts in Haiti:
Haiti has a mountainous relief, with very few natural resources and the agriculture is the main activity for the locals and also the main source of earnings. Unfortunately this country is one of the poorest in the world, with a low standard of living. The five mountain chains are crossed by deep valleys and fertile plains. The population is preponderant rural and more than a quarter of it is living in the capital Port au Prince. The fertile plains are few, making the standard of living here very hard. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The inhabitants cultivate banana, corn, cassava, but also sugar cane, coffee trees and sisal for export. Almost the entire population is composed by descendants of the black slaves. Haiti became the first country from the Caribbean region that obtained its independence in 01 January 1804. Unfortunately if the poor standard of living and poorness of the country aren’t enough, it is annually hit by hurricanes or tropical storms and sometimes by earthquakes like the one from 2010, 7 degrees on Richter scale, with over 230.000 deaths and many material damages.
