Relief, rivers, lakes, fauna, flora and climate:
Ghana has a low elevation relief which rarely pass 300-400 m height, composed by plains and hills with the maximum elevation in the peak Afadjato at the border with Togo which is 880 m height. The country is crossed by the Black Volta and the White Volta Rivers and by their tributaries that together compose a large basin perfect for the agriculture to be at a high level. These rivers unify in the east forming the large Volta Lake (one of the world’s largest artificial lakes) and after that, flows into the Guinea’s Gulf in south.
A large part of the territory especially in north is covered with savanna and the central and southern parts with tropical forests. So, fauna and flora are varied and attract millions of tourists annually. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) They come to Ghana also for the good tourism infrastructure, for the well developed economy, but especially for the tropical climate with constant temperatures during the year between 23 and 30º C, even if the rainfall varies according to the seasons wet and dry.
Agriculture, resources, industry and tourism in Ghana:
The agriculture from Ghana is an important sector for the economy and locals cultivate cereals, coffee trees, corn, manioc, bananas, pineapple but the main product for export is the cacao. This country is also one of the main exporters of timber because large territories from the tropical forests are deforested annually. There are many exploited resources like gold (among the world’s first exporters), oil, diamonds, bauxite, manganese and other minerals. Fishing industry is highly developed especially in the capital Accra.
A part of the territory was declared protected and transformed in national parks and reservations among we remember the Mole and Kakum National Parks. The country obtained the independence from Great Britain at 06 March 1957. Visit Ghana!
