When to go:
The best period to visit Focșani City is between March-April and October. In this period you can find here a beautiful weather with many sunny days and a lower rainfall mostly during summer when the air is drier. The temperatures begin to increase from March-April and they drop once the winter approaches from October-November. Between these months, Focșani City can be visited without wearing warm clothes. Focsani City is situated in the south-west part of Moldavia‘s historical region, in a plain and downy relief area situated at the contact between Curburii Sub Carpathians (in their south-east part) represented by Magura Odobeștilor Mountains and Siretului Inferior Plain. This gorgeous area where the city is situated, is sometimes affected by low intensity earthquakes and very rare by more powerful ones. This is because Vrancea area is one of the most active seismic areas from Romania, but the earthquakes are quite rare.
The average of altitude is 50-60 m height. The climate in Focsani City is temperate-continental of plain, but here the differences of temperature between summer and winter are quite big. The constant temperatures are only seasonal this fact making the transition from summer to winter to be suddenly. Summers are hot with temperatures often over 30° C and winters are cold and long, when temperatures often fall under 0° C. The annual average of the temperature is 9-10° C and the annual rainfall of 400 mm. Focsani City is crossed by Milcov River in its southern part and Mandresti Lake in nearby the city.

“The city from Milcov”, is another name for Focsani City, whose name comes from the boyars family “Focsa”, during the reign of Stefan cel Mare (Stephan the Great). The name was received thanks to the river that cross it and to Stefan cel Mare who established here the border between Moldavia and Romanian Country. Focsani City is an important economical, industrial, cultural and tourist center from the south part of Moldavia. Today the economy of this flowering city is based upon textile, wine production, alimentary and wood-processing industries and upon tourism which even if it’s quite poor promoted, is however in a process of development.
