Relief of Egypt:
Egypt was a flourishing civilization even since 3.000 – 4.000 years ago based upon the old pharaohs and their pyramids and temples. The relief is mostly desert with the Sahara and Libyan Deserts covering the entire surface except the fertile Nile valley and the Kattara dish in the north-west. The famous Peninsula of Sinai is situated in the north-east and is the only place where the mountains are present with the maximum point in the peak Jabal Kathrina with its 2.629 m height.
River Nile, lakes (Nasser Lake), population and agriculture:
The world’s longest river and the 2nd one as debit, the Nile which crosses Egypt from south to the north on a distance of more than 1.500 km is the main Egyptian river without which this civilization wouldn’t have flourished. The Nile is a real source of life for the Egyptians since long ago and to the north the river flows into the Mediterranean Sea through a large and beautiful delta. The majority of the population, Arab in origins, is living in cities built on the Nile valley where are situated the only Egyptian arable lands. The inhabitants are cultivating cereals, cotton, corn, sugar cane, citrus and vegetables. The largest Egyptian lake is Nasser Lake situated on the Nile River course in the south part of the country close to the well known city of Assuan.
Climate and resources of Egypt:
The Egyptian climate is dry and harsh, desert type with high variations of temperature. During the day can be temperatures of more than 50º C and in the night the temperatures decrease till 0º C. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The rainfall is very low, under 100 mm per year (sometimes it doesn’t rain for several years), except the Nile valley and delta and the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt has many important mineral resources of gold, iron, uranium, phosphates, but more important is the oil because the country is the world’s 4th producer.
Tourism, tourist objectives and attractions:
But above all, the largest part of the earnings is obtained from tourism because Egypt has many tourist objectives and attractions to show, superb beaches with beautiful and quiet seaside resorts, but also a valley of the Nile where for thousands of years the traces of an old civilization are unmovable. The capital is Cairo, one of the largest cities in Africa, but the biggest and the best known port is Alexandria. The country obtained the independence from the Great Britain at 28 February 1922.
