Relief, lakes, climate, population, agriculture and economy:
Djibouti has a desert relief with few mountains in north where is the country’s highest peak, Moussa Ali at 2.028 m height. On its little territory are some of the largest lakes from eastern Africa like Abbe Lake at the border with Ethiopia and Assal Lake in the center. The climate is tropical, hot with very high temperatures and a rainfall under 200 mm annually. The capital has the same name and is a large city and a strategic port at the Aden Gulf where more than three quarters of the population are living. The majority of the locals are working in agriculture cultivating cereals, citrus, corn and especially growing domestic animals like pigs, chicken, cows. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The main nationalities are Isaa and Afari and the economy is based upon fishing, salt extraction, harbor services and on France’s help. The country became independent from France at 27 June 1977. Visit Djibouti!
