Relief, rivers, lakes and climate:
The country is one of the countries that formed the ex-Yugoslavia and which obtained the independency at 25 June 1991. It has a mostly plain relief, but in the central area are the Dinaric Alps with the maximum elevation in Troglav peak with its 1.913 m height. The west coast of Croatia is called Dalmatia and is a region with many rocky islands and peninsulas. The northern and eastern parts of Croatia are composed by a large plain crossed by rivers like Sava and Drava or Danube on a short distance.
The calcareous relief appears especially in the mountains where tourists can see many caves and beautiful lakes. The best known National Park is Plitvice. The country’s climate is Mediterranean on the coast and continental in interior with warm summers and cold winters. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The annual media in winter is between -3 and 0º C and in summer between 17 and 20º C. Because the forests cover almost a half of the territory and the national parks and protected areas are numerous, the biodiversity doesn’t have too much to suffer so flora and fauna are protected.
Agriculture, resources and tourism:
The most fertile region and good for agriculture is in the eastern part where the inhabitants cultivate cereals, sunflower, soy and sugar cane and they grow cattle, pigs and chicken. Croatia has important resources of coal. A big part of the economy is based on tourism, the Croatian beaches and sea resorts, the beautiful cities full of history like Dubrovnik or Zagreb and the National Parks attract millions of tourists annually. The capital and the largest and cultural center of Croatia is Zagreb, but other important cities are Split, Rijeka, Osijek or Dubrovnik.Visit Croatia!
