The highest point is Heha Peak at 2.670 m height, and many river valleys are situated between these peaks. They are important for production of the electricity. The capital and the largest city is Bujumbura situated in the west of the country and it’s also the largest port at the Tanganyika Lake. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) A large part of the country is covered with tropical forests and savannas and fauna and flora are diversified.

The climate is the same like in the whole Central Africa, tropical with high temperatures. The mountain gorillas represent the country’s main attraction due to the fact that they are on the endangered animals list. The population work in agriculture cultivating cereals, coffee and tea trees and cotton and growing domestic animals for food and transport. Unfortunately, the country was also affected by intern conflicts and nowadays is one of the world’s poorest countries. It obtained the independence from France at 01 July 1962. Visit Burundi!
