Relief and climate of Botswana:
Botswana is a medium size country but it has a very low population and density because of the well known Kalahari Desert which covers more than 75% of the country’s relief. In north is the moorland of the Okavango River (the world’s largest interior delta) which is abundant in animal species and the only fertile plain is in south-east where the majority of the population is concentrated. Even if the country is affected by drought and the climate is hot with high temperatures sometimes passing 40 – 50º C, the agriculture is the main activity.
Rivers, resources, tourism and population:
The main river is Limpopo. Chobe National Park and many other reservations and parks on the country’s territory protect hundreds of species of birds and mammals. The country is based very much upon the rich resources of diamonds (the world’s 3rd producer), uranium, copper, gold, oil, coal and nickel. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The tourism becomes more and more important for the predominantly Tswana population. The country obtained the independency from Great Britain at 30 September 1966. Visit Botswana!
