North-East entry: follow the European road E58 (DN17) from Russia – Ukraine – Moldova Republic – Iași – Botoșani – Suceava – Câmpulung Moldovenesc – Vatra Dornei.
South entry: follow the same European road E578 (DN15a) from Brașov – Sfântu Gheorghe – Miercurea Ciuc – Gheorghieni – Reghin.
West entry: follow the European road E58 (DN17) from Austria – Slovakia – Ukraine – Baia Mare – Dej – Beclean.
North-West entry: follow the National road DN17c from Moisei – Năsăud.
You can also get in Bistrița very easy by coach/bus.
By train:
Unfortunately Bistrița is not an important railway junction of Romania, so you will need connection trains to get here. Although, the main railway routes with stops in Bistrița are:

Bistrita City is the biggest city from the north part of the historical region Transylvania and is situated in the north-east of the Transylvanian Plateau (Bistrita’s Hills) in Bistrita Depression, not very far from the Eastern Carpathians. The average altitude of the relief where the city is situated is 350-400 m height. The climate in Bistrita City is very nice for more than two-thirds of the year with temperatures above 15° C. During summer, these temperatures can often exceed 25-30° C. The climate is temperate continental and the annual average of the temperature is 8-9° C. Summers are warm and rich in rainfall and winters are dry and cold. The main river which crosses the city is Bistrita River. There is only one lake on city’s territory, a leisure one.
History, importance and the beautiful location of Bistrita City:
Bistrita City is one of the first cities founded by Germans, who fortified the city starting the 14th century. A few centuries later, in 1930, since Germans arrived in the region, the city had a German population approximately equal to that of Romanians. But starting the 2nd World War, German population began to decrease very much and today the Romanians represent more than 90% of the population. The picturesque and quiet area of Northern Transylvania where the city is located, always attracted those tourists in search of silence, but also the adventurers, because Bistrita City is not very far from the Eastern Carpathians and their national parks rich in splendid landscapes, waterfalls and marked hiking trails (Rodnei Mountains National Park and Calimani Mountains National Park).
