Benin is a state with a maximum width of 325 km and the maximum length is approximately 650 km. The relief is composed by a shore with beaches, lagoons and mangrove forests, a coastal fertile plain and hills and low mountains in center and in north. The country is crossed by several rivers and among the most important are the Niger River in north and the Oueme River that has the spring in the central part and flows into Guinea’s Gulf. The climate is tropical with a higher rainfall in south, which decreases gradually to the north and the temperatures are high. The population is mostly rural working in agriculture, cultivating rice, corn, manioc, millet, yams and cotton and growing sheep, goats and cattle.
