Relief, forests and other aspects:
The country was well known as the British Honduras till 1973, because it was a British territory till it obtained its independence in 1981. As about the relief, Belize has a flat, plain northern part with low altitudes and the central and southern parts are mountainous. Almost half of the country’s surface is covered with subtropical forests and trees like mahogany and Sapota Zapotilla the tree with the main ingredient for the bubble gum. It has many coral islands along the coast in the Caribbean Sea and the entire archipelago measures over 300 km long.
Tourism, population and agriculture:
The tourism is a very important activity here, like in all the other Central American countries and is visited by over 400.000 tourists annually for the beautiful beaches and for the historic edifications.
