Relief, climate and population of Algeria:
Algeria from North-West Africa has a relief mostly composed by the world’s largest desert, Sahara Desert. The only territories covered with mountains are in north, the Atlas Mountains with the maximum point in Tahat peak at 3.003 m height. This mountain chain split the low regions in two narrow bands, one at the north side of Sahara Desert and the other one on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea where more than 90% of the population is concentrated.
The climate is temperate with Mediterranean influences in the northern part while in desert there is a very dry climate where it’s raining once in a few years. The summers are hot and the winters are mild with high temperatures sometimes passing over 50º C and the rainfall varies according with the location. In the country predominates the Sirocco hot wind. Approximately 3/4 of the population are Arabs and 1/4 Berbers. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com)
Agriculture and resources:
The only arable lands for agriculture situated in north are cultivated with cereals, figs, dates, olive trees and citrus, but the most important earnings come from the commerce with oil and natural gas, because Algeria is the world’s 2nd largest exporter of oil and the 5th as about the natural gas. Unfortunately the tourism is very limited due to the numerous conflicts. Be careful and plan well if you visit Algeria!
