Relief, climate and waters of Alexandria City:
Alexandria City is situated in the south part of Muntenia‘s historical region, in a low plain and meadow relief area, represented by Burnazului and Găvanu Burdea Plains, the last one a bit far from north, as well as Vedea River Meadow, all being part from the stretched Romanian Plain. The average altitude is only 40-50 m height.
The climate is temperate-continental of plain, with big differences between summer and winter and also with big differences in rainfall. So, there are drought and very rainy periods when due to overloaded soil and groundwater situated at only 2-3 m depth can be floods. Summers are hot with temperature over 30° C sometimes and winters are cold with temperatures often under 0° C. The annual average of the temperature is 10-11° C and the annual rainfall is 500-600 mm. Alexandria City is crossed by Vedea River and Rece (Cold), Vitănești and Siliștea Lakes are close.
Agriculture, economy and history of Alexandria City:
It is no wonder that due to astonishing soil, rich in mold, Alexandria City and whole Teleorman County is agrarian. The agriculture culminates with the growth of domestic animals (sheep, pigs, goats, cows, chickens) and the cultures of wheat, sun flower, maize, sugar beet, hemp, flax, soybeans, castor and other leguminous plants which all bring the most earnings for the local economy.
Due to extended agricultural lands, Teleorman County is among the firsts in the country in agriculture. Other economical revenues come from textile, chemical, food-processing, metal processing and constructions handed over machinery industries. Historically, we can say contrary to normal that Alexandria City doesn’t have a rich history, due to the fact that was built very late in 1834 and three years later unfortunately was largely destroyed by a fire, being necessary many years to be readjusted.
