African population and relief:

Africa is the oldest populated continent in the world, but unfortunately today is the continent with the poorest and lowest developed countries. The population is composed by thousands of tribes and ethnic groups and most of the territories were in the past colonies of France, Great Britain, Belgium, Spain or Portugal. With a population representing the 8th part of the entire world’s population, Africa has a complex relief like almost all the other continents formed by wide desert areas like Sahara Desert, the largest desert in the world that occupies the whole northern part of it, Somalia’s Desert in east and Namib and Kalahari Deserts in south.

The low plain areas are present in the center and west parts of the continent, the plateau areas appear in the central-southern part and the mountainous areas predominate in east where is the Ethiopian Plateau that has a mountainous aspect and the Great Rift Valley where is the highest peak, Kilimanjaro. African climate, fauna and flora:

African climate is hot and dry with temperatures often passing 40º C and sometimes even 55º C in the desert. Generally is a tropical and subtropical climate and the flora is composed mostly by savannas and tropical forests. These shelter a large variety of fauna and among the best known species are lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, hippos, buffaloes, antelopes, gazelles, monkeys, ostriches, flamingos and many others. Unfortunately many of the African countries were in conflicts and civil wars for several decades, between them or between the ethnic groups from a certain country.
