Ialomita County has a relief of a low altitude composed by Romanian Plain (Baraganului Plain) and Balta Ialomitei, a low meadow area  formed by the Danube River. The maximum elevation doesn’t exceed 200-300 meters height. Ialomita‘s climate is continental moderate with very high temperatures during summer when drought may occur and winters are cold with frequent periods of frost. The icy northern wind is the main wind from the county which brings cold and low temperatures under 0º C during winter. The longest rivers are the Danube, Ialomita and Prahova Rivers. The largest lakes are Amara, Fundata, Pereti and Strachina.

The main species of flora are the forests of poplar, willow, oak, and beech specific to meadow and plain areas and the fauna present here is also specific for the low plain area, but abundant is the fish fauna.
