Hunedoara County has a mountainous and depression relief of plateaus with Metaliferi Mountains in north, Poiana Rusca Mountains and Tarcului Mountains in west, Retezat, Godeanu, Valcan and Parang Mountains in south and Sureanu Mountains in east. Between these groups of mountains there is a large (Hunedoara) depression area. The maximum altitude is in Parangul Mare peak with its 2.518 meters height.
