Name, population and agriculture of Guyana:

This is the 4th country in South America together with French Guyana, Suriname and Brazil where the Spanish language is not the main one. It was under British domination till 26 May 1966 when it obtained its independence. The name of the country comes from the American Indians language and means The land of many waters, because it’s crossed by many rivers. Four parts from five of the country’s territory are covered by equatorial forests. More than 90% of the population is living on the coast at the Atlantic Ocean. The most fertile area of the country with low plains is here on the coast where on about 60 km width, the locals work in agriculture and cultivate coffee, corn, rice, sugar and cocoa-nut trees.

They are also involved in the resources extraction of bauxite and diamonds. The longest river, Essequibo with 1.010 km length it was in the years of 1600, the homeland for the Dutch conquerors. Lots of people came here from India in the 19th century to work on plantations and today, more than a half of the total population are descendants of Indians and the other part of the population are Africans in origin.
