History of Dobruja region:

Dobruja or Dobrogea region known in the past as the Little Scythia, was occupied since long time ago by Greeks who left behind the citadels of Histria, Callatis and Tomis on the Black Sea coast. The history of the region is very interesting, but also tense due to the fact that dozens of nations passed through here. Dobruja was ruled after the Greeks by Getae, in good relations with the Greeks, by Persians, and then for a long period by Romans. For dozens of years, there were fights for these territories between the Dacians led by the king Decebal and the Romans led by the emperor Trajan. Later on, these lands were under Byzantine domination, so that for centuries they would be crossed by the nomadic people coming from east. After the Ottoman and German rule after the 14th century, Dobruja finally joins Romania in 1877.

Relief of Dobruja region:

Dobruja‘s relief is quite poor, but compensates due to the fact that on its territory, is the third swampy land in the world, known as Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, included in the UNESCO World Heritage. Going from west, there are some of the oldest mountains in Europe, Macin Mountains, today having the aspect of a hill or plateau because are very eroded. Towards the central and south parts is Dobruja Plateau which covers the most part of the region. Although these territories do not offer anything spectacular to the modern tourist, his eyes will be rewarded once he arrives on the gorgeous coast of the Black Sea, but especially in the north-east part, in Danube Delta, this wealth of nature.

Climate, lakes and rivers of Dobruja region:

The climate in Dobrogea Region is very hot with many sunny days beggining from spring, till late in autumn. The climate is temperate continental with influences from north-west and north-east, with strong winds, warm in summer and polar in winter. The annual average of the temperature is 11-12° C, which makes Dobruja to be one of the warmest regions of Romania. The Black Sea and the Danube Delta which is full of lakes, are the main hydrographic areas of Dobruja, because this area is poor in rivers. The Danube and Casimcea Rivers are the main streams and the largest and most important lakes are Techirghiol, Tasaul, Mangalia, Babadag, Siutghiol, Sinoe, Zmeica, Golovita, Pecineaga, Razelm and Traian,  all  being  wonderful  fisheries.

Tourism, tourist attractions and objectives:

As about tourism, Dobrogea Region is very interesting to visit. You can easily sit on the beach and sunbath, relax and swim in the warm waters of the Black Sea, in one of the seaside resorts (Mamaia, Eforie Sud, Neptun, Venus, Costinesti, Olimp, Jupiter, Saturn and others), you can explore by boat the paradise created by nature called Danube Delta or simply you can visit one or more from the following tourist attractions and objectives which are here in Dobruja:

Gura Dobrogei (Dobrogea’s Mouth) Caving Reserve, Trajan’s Wave Flora Reserve, the citadels from Histria, Tomis and Callatis, Dervenț Monastery, Adamclisi Monument, Macin Mountains National Park, Letea and Caraorman Forests, Turcoaia (Troesmis), Enisala and Argamum Citadels, Celic, Cocos and Statiu Monasteries, but also the beautiful cities of Constanta and Tulcea, because here in Dobrogea Region, the history perfectly combines with the nature. Fauna and flora of Dobruja:

This fishing paradise, is by far the favorite place for the hunters, because the place is very rich, both in fish fauna and also in terrestrial one. Forests, wetlands or ponds, are all home for thousands of species of animals (brightly colored birds, reptiles, amphibians, foxes, wild boars, otters, rabbits, martens, deer, nutria, pelicans, egrets, swans and many others) and plants more or less interesting.
