These islands are in fact a part of the South American continent, but separated by it millions of years ago. Comparative with all the other countries from the Caribbean region, it’s a country that gets its earnings from the commerce with oil and natural gas. The main island of Trinidad is also rich in resources of asphalt used for road construction. The population is diverse composed by Africans and Europeans but also from Chinese, east-Asians or South Americans. The island of Trinidad was a Spanish colony starting the day when Columbus discovered it in 1498, then it was captured by the British empire in 1797 after a naval war. The country obtained its independence over the Great Britain in 31 August 1962.

Name, climate and other aspects:

The name of Trinidad and Tobago comes from Columbus words La Isla de la Trinidad (The island of Trinity) and Tobago that comes from the island that has a form like a tobacco-cigarette.
