Geographically, all these are part from the well known Transylvanian Plateau and the average of the elevation where the city is situated is 300 m height. The climate in Targu Mures City is temperate-continental, moderate with hot summers and frosty winters which means that the difference between summer and winter is big. Targu Mures City is crossed by Mures River, but no important lakes are in the area.

Short history, population, importance and name of Targu Mures City:

Mures County‘s capital has a special history. Most of the time it was part from Austro-Hungarian Empire or Kingdom of Hungary rather than being part of Romania and many of Transylvania’s kings were Hungarian in origins. Today the population is mixed composed by both Romanians (52%) and Hungarians (44%), same like religion. For many years, Targu Mures City was the most important cultural, economic, industrial and educational centre of Secuiesc Land.

Today is also an important cultural, historical, commercial, industrial, university and tourist center from Transylvania. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Although in the last decades the city developed very much, the old centre and its historical buildings give tourists the impression of going back in time, making them feel like hundreds of years ago. The name of Targu Mures City comes from the Hungarian word “vásárhely” which means trade (market) and Mures word coming from the fact that the city is situated on Mures River.

Tourism, tourist objectives and attractions and what to do and see:

Targu Mures City‘s centre and also the most important tourist objective is the Medieval Citadel. Use it as a starting point to explore the city’s medieval streets full of history or to visit the cultural and religious tourist objectives and attractions from this beautiful Transylvanian City. A little further in south of Targu Mures, there is a little city, more beautiful and historical. Sighisoara, is a gorgeous city of a rare beauty among Romania’s medieval cities and is also the host of an annual medieval festival.
