By car:

North entry: follow the National road DN1/71 from Brașov-Sinaia-Pucioasa.

East entry: follow the National road DN72 from Ploiești.

North-West entry: follow the National road DN72a from Câmpulung Muscel.

South-West entry: follow the National road DN72 from Găești.

South-East entry: follow the National road DN7/71 from Bucharest.

Unfortunately Târgoviște is not crossed by any important European road, so the access in the area is a bit difficult, but it worths the effort.

By train:

Targoviste City is not an important railway junction of the country, but because it’s a secondary one, there are daily trains which connect Targoviste with the main cities of Romania. The most important railway routes which cross Targoviste are:

Târgoviște – Bucharest
Targoviste – Ploiești
Târgoviște – Pietroșița
Targoviste – Fieni and others.

By plane:

Targoviste City doesn’t have an international airport, so the closest airports are in Bucharest- “Henri Coandă” (Otopeni) International Airport or “Aurel Vlaicu” (Băneasa) International Airport, both at 90 km away.

When to go:

The best period to visit Targoviste City is between April and October, when is the perfect period for visits and walks. Here, the temperatures from spring till autumn are perfect, but there can be many rainy days. Summers are often very hot, but the traffic is lower making easier the access by car or walking.

The climate from Targoviste City is temperate-continental with big differences of temperature between summer and winter. The area is protected by Sub Carpathian peaks against winds and extreme temperatures. Summers are hot, even if sometimes can be cold periods during summer and winters are mild. The annual average of the temperature is 9-10° C. Targoviste City is crossed by Ialomita River and Chindia Lake is on its territory.

History of Targoviste City:

The history of Targoviste City is very important, because for approximately 3 centuries between the 14th and 17th centuries during Mircea cel Batran (Mircea the Old) reign, the city was the capital of the Romanian Country and the most important city from Muntenia. After the capital was moved in Bucharest, the city loses very much both from economical power and also from population.
