How to get here:

By car:

North entry: follow the European road E584 (DN21) from Moldova Republic – Galați – Brăila or the National road DN2c from Buzău.

East entry: follow the European road E60 (DN2a) from Constanța.

West entry: follow the European road E60 (DN2a) from France – Switzerland – Austria – Hungary – Oradea – Cluj Napoca – Brașov – Ploiești – Bucharest – Urziceni.

South entry: follow the National road DN21 from Călărași.

By train:

Slobozia City is not a railway junction of the country. However, the main railway routes that pass through Slobozia are:

Slobozia – Fetești
Slobozia – Urziceni – Bucharest
Ploiești – Urziceni – Slobozia
Ciulnița – Slobozia
Urziceni – Slobozia and others.

Unfortunately the railway network is low developed and the fastest way to get here is by car or by coach/bus.

By plane:

Slobozia City doesn’t have an international airport, so those who want to get here by plain will have to arrive on Henri Coandă – Otopeni International Airport (125 km) or on Constanța International Airport (140 km) the first one with more flights.

The best period to visit Slobozia City is between March-April and October, because the weather starts to get warmer and warmer when spring comes. It is recommended to come here in April-June or September-October, because even if the summer has the most sunny days and a low rainfall, these days can be very hot with temperatures often exceeding 30° C.

Slobozia City is situated in south-east of Muntenia‘s historical region, in a low plain area from the central part of the Romanian Plain. Area’s relief is represented by a stretched plain crossed by valleys and meadows, some of the areas being terraced. The soil is sandy and most of the time humid and the average of the elevation where the city is situated is only 20 m height. The climate in Slobozia City is temperate-continental of plain, whit influences coming from the Black Sea and the differences of temperature between summer and winter are very high.

This is represented by the coldest month (January) which has an average of the temperature of -5°C, while the hottest month (July) has an average of the temperature of more than 32° C. Summers are hot and long and winters cold and also long. The annual average of the temperature is 10-11° C and the rainfall barely reaches 450 mm per year. Slobozia City is crossed by Ialomita River and Amara and Iezer Lakes are nearby.

Slobozia City is the capital of Ialomita County and the most powerful and biggest economical, commercial, historical and cultural centre of the area. Due to modernization and economical development, the majority of Romanian population increased a lot in the last century from 4.000 people in 1912 to over 50.000 in the last ten years. If there were found human tracks even few thousands of years old, Slobozia‘s recent history starts only a few hundred of years ago, during Mihai Viteazul (the Brave) rule from the end of the 16th century.

City’s history is not spectacular or long and unfortunately in terms of tourism, the city doesn’t have the same status like other cities from Romania, so Slobozia is a less known city for Romanians and even less than that to foreign tourists. But, in the last decades after the Communism fall there can be seen a continuous improvement in Ialomita’s architecture and tourism.

The communism system fall of the well known dictator Ceausescu, brought a pronounced modernization. New resources that brought important incomes were exploited, new blocks of flats and commercial centers were built and public institutions or tourist objectives were renewed. Slobozia City‘s actual economy is based upon the alimentary, wood processing, chemical industries, upon agriculture, telecommunications and more and more on tourism which needs a better promotion.
