Sibiu County has a predominant plateau and mountain relief with the Transylvanian Plateau (composed by Tarnavelor, Hartibaciu and Secaselor Plateaus) covering the central and north parts and with Făgăraș, Lotrului and Cindrel Mountains covering the south part. Fagaras and Sibiu Depressions are the most important and the highest peak is Negoiu of 2.535 meters height. Sibiu County‘s climate is continental moderate with lower temperatures comparative to the average of Romania, due to the high elevation. The temperatures vary between 9 and 10º C (the annual average) in the mountain area and the rainfall between 700 and 1.300 mm per year.
