Relief and climate of Prahova County:

Prahova County has a relief composed by a mountain area in north (Bucegi, Baiului, Grohotișului and Ciucaș Mountains), by a plateau area in the central part (Curburii Sub Carpathians) and a plain area in south (the High Plain of Ploieștiului part of the Romanian Plain). The highest elevation is in Omu peak of 2.505 meters height. Prahova County‘s climate is temperate-continental, but it varies greatly depending on the landforms and altitude. The temperatures in the mountain area are lower than the rest of the county and the rainfall is rich over 1.000 mm per year. The most important rivers are Prahova, Ialomița, Doftana and Cricovul Sărat Rivers and the largest lakes are Fulga and Păltinoasa Lakes.

Flora, fauna and tourist attractions:

Prahova County‘s flora is of a great rarity with beautiful alpine meadows, dwarf trees and bushes, forests of spruce, fir and pine, but also forests of beech, oak, elm, maple or holm and prairie vegetation. The fauna is varied ranging from carnivores such as Carpathian brown bears, wolves and lynxes to rabbits, ferrets, squirrels, deer, fallow deer, wild boars and many others. The most important tourist attractions are Prahova Valley with its beautiful cities and tourist resorts (regardless of season, but very important during the winter because of the slopes for winter sports), Peles and Pelisor Castles from Sinaia, Babele and the Sphinx formations from Busteni, Cricovului Valley, Doftanei Valley, the relaxing, treatment and rest resorts from Slanic Prahova, Sinaia, Telega or Busteni, Ploiesti City, Sinaia, Susana, Comarnic, Cheia and Caraiman Monasteries, the salt mountain from Slanic Prahova, “Ion Luca Caragiale” Memorial House (one of the greatest Romanian writers).
