South-East entry: follow the National road DN2/15 from Bucharest – Buzău – Focșani – Bacău.

East entry: follow the National road DN15d from Vaslui – Roman.

North entry: follow the National road DN2/15c from Suceava – Fălticeni – Târgu Neamț.

West entry: follow the National road DN1/15 from Oradea – Cluj Napoca – Turda – Târgu Mureș – Reghin – Toplița – Bicaz or the National road DN12/12c and after at Bicaz DN15 from Brașov – Sfântu Gheorghe – Miercurea Ciuc – Gheorgheni.

By train:

Piatra Neamț City doesn’t have an international airport, so tourists who want to come here by plain will have to arrive on Bacău International Airport (60 km) with regular flights from and to Bucharest, Timișoara, Rome, Bologna, Milano and Torino, or on Iași International Airport (130 km) having connections with Bucharest, Constanța, Timișoara, Budapest or Viena.

When to go:

The best period to visit Piatra Neamț City is between April and September, the period with the most beautiful weather and with the highest temperatures. The city can be also visited out of this period but the weather can be freakish during winter. Late in spring and in summer the average of the temperature is 20-25° C and is the period chosen by most of tourists.

Piatra Neamt City is situated is the west part of the historical region of Moldavia, in a mountain depression area (Cracău-Bistrița Depression), surrounded from all its parts by mountainous peaks (Cozla in north, Cârlomanu in north-west, Bâtca Doamnei in south-west, Cernegura in south and Pietricica in east). The largest part of the city is however at the limit between the Eastern Carpathians and Moldavia’s Sub Carpathians and the average elevation where the city is situated at, is 310 m height.

Climate and waters of Piatra Neamt City:

Piatra Neamt‘s climate is temperate-continental and despite the fact that the mountains are close, this depression where the city is situated in, is away from extreme temperatures. So, summers are not very hot, sometimes even cool and winters are milder, but however long. The annual average of the temperature is 8-9° C, and the rainfall is up to 650 mm per year. Piatra Neamt City is crossed by Bistrița and Cuiejdi Rivers and the main lakes from its territory are: Bâtca Doamnei and Reconstrucția.

History of Piatra Neamt City:

Even since prehistory, civilization tracks were found here in Piatra Neamt City’s area and after from antiquity, that makes the area in which the city is situated today, to be one of the oldest inhabited area from the country. The most obvious tracks are from the Geto-Dacian period and Petrodava Citadel was the center of this civilization. Nevertheless, the name Piatra as a settlement appears in the official documents at the end of the 14th century and later was built here the Royal Court by Ștefan cel Mare (Stephan the Great), so the city’s importance and economical power increased a lot.
