Resources, industry and agriculture in Iran:

This is one of the world’s richest countries due to its massive resources of oil and natural gas which bring the largest part of the earnings. It’s one of the world’s greatest exporters of oil and beside these industries, others are developed like chemical, textile, alimentary, metallurgical and engineering industries. The agriculture plays an important role in the Iranians life, even if just a small part of the territory can be cultivated. They cultivate cereals, sugar beet, sugar cane and cotton.

Relief, rivers and lakes:

Iranian relief is uneven, with a large part of the surface composed from the Iranian Plateau in center and desserts like Kevir and Lut desserts, but also mountains in north, west and south-west, among the best known are Zagros Mountains in west and south and Elburz Mountains in north giving the highest Iranian peak, Damavand with 5.604 m height. The country is crossed by many rivers like Karun River which is the most important and their valleys are good for agriculture. The largest lake is Urmia in the north-western part.

Climate, other aspects and name of Iran:

The Iranian climate is mostly hot and dry due to its relief and has a low rainfall. The capital Tehran, a real and large metropolis is situated at a height over 1.000 m at the southern base of Mount Elburz flank. Like some of the other countries from the Middle East, Iran was involved in conflicts and wars and now is trying to recover and to develop more and more. Its name comes from the Persian word Arian alludes to The land of Arians, meaning also The gold land. The country became an Islamic republic at 24 October 1979. Visit Iran!
