Relief, climate, rivers and lakes from Gorj County:

Gorj County has a relief predominantly composed by mountains and plateaus. Capatanei, Godeanu, Valcan and Parang Mountains are covering the north part of the county while the Getic Subcarpathians and the Getic Plateau occupy the central and south parts with 600-800 meters height. The highest altitude from Gorj is in Parangu Mare peak of 2.518 meters height. Gorj County‘s climate is temperate-continental with Mediteraneean influences, where summers are warm and winters are cold, but the temperatures vary depending on the elevation, the annual average increasing from 6-7º C in the mountain area to 10º C in the plateau area. The main rivers are Jiu, Gilort, Oltet and Motru and the largest lakes are Vaja, Motru, Cerna and Rovinari.

Gorj County‘s flora is composed by turkish hazelnut, chestnut, alpine meadows and forests of fir and spruce mainly.
