Galati City is situated in the south part of Moldavia‘s historical region and the largest part of it is situated in a low meadow relief area, part of Siretului Valley or Meadow. The city is stretched on three terraces with different heights ranging from a few meters to 40-50 meters and the average of the elevation is around 25-30 m height. The climate of Galati City is temperate-continental of plain with powerful influences coming from Siberia during winter, when the winds are powerful and the weather is very cold. Summers are hot, when you can feel Danube’s breeze and winters cold with freakish weather. The annual average of the temperature is 10-11° C. Galati City is crossed by Romania‘s most important river and the second as length from Europe, the Danube River and besides this, other two rivers are close to the city, Siret and Prut Rivers which flow into the Danube River near Galati. Brates, Vanatori and Catusa Lakes are part from Galati City and are places for recreation and entertainment.

History and population of Galati City and what to do:

Galati City is the biggest and most important river port of Romania. A city with a rich and interesting history, it impresses at the first sight not with its old buildings and historical centre, but rather with its long and beautiful boulevards and most with its Danube promenade, a special place for walks, relaxation and fun. It’s good to know that city’s population is a mix of cultures because besides the majority of Romanian people there are huge communities of Jews, Turks, Greeks, Armenians or Indians. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Unfortunately, in time, many battles have been held on this territory, and the city was destroyed several times, either by Ottomans, Germans or other nations. Galati City was always a powerful and important cultural, industrial, economical center and in the last decades also a touristic one.

Industry, tourism, tourist attractions and objectives:

City‘s industry is very powerful because here is the biggest steel center from the country and lots of ships at different sizes and marine platforms are made in Galati. The waterway traffic is intense, because a big part of exports towards Europe’s west part are made on water.
