History and name of Deva City:

Although Romania is a country with a long, interesting and beautiful history, it’s surprising the fact that Deva City is one of the least historic cities from Romania. This doesn’t mean that here you won’t find historical monuments, old and beautiful buildings, castles, citadels or other objectives of historical and cultural interest. Contrary, despite the fact that the city was safe from important historical events, here can be found many historical objectives, some of them even more than 1.000 years old.

Deva‘s name has many meanings. One comes from the Dacian word “Dava” meaning citadel, another one comes from the roman name “Castrum Deva” or another one comes from the Slav word “Deva” meaning “Virgin”. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) Internationally, some tourists can recognize the name Deva by associating it with gymnastics because here is the headquarter and the most important place of training of Romanian gymnastics renowned in the entire world for the performances they got.

Tourist objectives and attractions of Deva City:

Deva is a relatively small city, but however it hides diverse tourist objectives and attractions. It doesn’t matter if you come here for culture, art, religion, adventure, relaxation or fun, for sure you have where to choose from. By far, the most important tourist objective of the city is Deva Citadel which seems to protect the city from the enemies “attacks”. Not far from it, in south, in the neighbor city of Hunedoara is Huniazi or Corvinilor Castle much more renowned and beautiful than its northern sister.

Start your day with a visit to one of Deva‘s museums and after if you want to have a nice view over the city, hike up or go by the cable car on Citadel’s Hill where the renowned Deva Citadel is situated. You will have a wonderful view over the whole city from here, but also over its surroundings, making an idea of how long and beautiful is Mures Meadow. Visit Deva City!
