Relief, climate, rivers and lakes of Calarasi County:

Calarasi County has a totally plain relief covered by the wide plain of Baragan and the Danube Meadow with Balta Ialomitei (Ialomita Puddle) in the south-east. The maximum elevation doesn’t exceed a few hundred feet. Calarasi County‘s climate is continental with the annual average of the temperature around 11-12° C. Summers are often very hot and winters cold. The rainfall is low and the main winds are the icy north wind and the south-western wind. The most important river with its basin and tributaries is the Danube River. Other important rivers are Arges and Dambovita and the main lakes are Mostistea, Galatui and Calarasi Lakes.

Fauna, flora and tourist attractions and objectives:

Calarasi‘s fauna is predominantly of prairie and forests with many species of rodents among the most common are the hare and the gopher, but also carnivores such as ferrets, foxes or badgers. There are also numerous species of reptiles, amphibians and birds, among the most important are the bustard, the partridge, the quail, the lark and the gamble. Flora is represented by meadows and forests of oak, ash, locust and others. Also the fish fauna is present on a large scale and the specific flora of meadow area.
